Shut It Down

Do you have any beauty products that have ended the game? Meaning you have no desire to even look at any other product in that same category? It’s always a little hard with the fickle beauty industry as products come-and-go, but every once in a while something comes along that causes you to forget everything else. It’s very romantic.

Here are mine. Some I’ve used for over a decade, some are brand new, but they’ve shut out all other products in their categories.

Urban Decay All Nighter

You’ve seen me use this in nearly every tutorial, and for good reason. Simply, Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray keeps your makeup on your face for a long time. I’ve always used this on brides as well. It keeps me from having to use powder to set, which can age my dry skin, and it’s never failed me yet.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Cheat

This is one of the very first products I purchased from Charlotte’s eponymous makeup line when it first launched. I even had it shipped from England since it wasn’t yet available in the US, and I still love Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Cheat so much that I always have at least one backup on hand.

A perfect blend of soft and waxy, this pencil is the only one I can use to overdraw my lips. It’s amazing and unmatched and worth every cent. Speaking of it’s price, I don’t use it every day, but a great dupe for color (not formula) is the Jason Wu lip liner in shade 1.

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara

Another makeup artist-created line, the Keven Aucoin The Volume Mascara is the only mascara that doesn’t run on my bottom lashes. I’ve tried drug store and high-end waterproof and water-resistant formulas. I’ve tried all the tricks including powdering the lashes, powdering under the lashes, all the things, and nothing works like this mascara.

I get one tube a year and don’t use it every day so it lasts. If you have issues with bottom mascara smudging, definitely give this a try.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer

This brand was created by a news anchor who couldn’t find products that both covered rosacea but didn’t not look thick and heavy on TV.

I’ve consistently used IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer for I don’t know how many years, and have yet to find its equal. Yes, it’s thick. But you can use the smallest amount to give extraordinary coverage, and this concealer moves with your skin. If you’re oily, you might need to powder it, but it also adheres to skin like no other product.

I’m obsessed with this waterproof, anti-ageing product and if anything ever happens to this brand I don’t know what I’d do!

Jason Wu Honey Fluff

I love the look of a matte lip, especially from a liquid lipstick. The others I’ve tried are from Anastasia Beverly Hills (shout out Pure Hollywood, the OG), NYX Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury and NARS. They all came up short: either too chalky, too heavy, wearing off just in the center of the lips, ultra drying, or too liquid-y.

So, I didn’t have the highest hopes for this, but was intrigued and now I own three. And wear them constantly in so many different ways. I received an email from a brand about their new liquid lipsticks and deleted immediately because I will never need another.

Jason Wu Honey Fluff is creamy but dries matte, is somehow non-drying but lasts all day. You know how many liquid lips can “pill?” Not this one. This is a ground-breaking product and I hope you’ll check it out.
