Although I’m striving to work through my massive makeup collection, I have picked up a few new items to try over the last few months. Some are great, some aren’t, some are interesting. Here are some you should know - if you want to see them in action, check out the YouTube video below.
Fenty Bright Fix Under Eye Brightener
Y’all know I’m shattered over Becca’s impending doom, so I’m slowly on the hunt for new undereye correctors. I was intrigued by the Fenty Bright Fix Under Eye Brightener because of the shade range as well as the consistency.
The shades are fantastic, but I’m still working with the consistency. While true correctors go under concealer, this is a brightener, like the YSL Touche Eclat, so it can work on its own or even over concealer.
I’d use it as a concealer if you have dull under eyes, have a hard time finding a great concealer shade, or don’t have much to cover. If you’re like me with dark, purple under eyes, I like to use it as a concealer topper just where I need some brightness - usually right in the inner corner.
Glossier Brow Flick and Solar Paint
Brow flick
Since I never used a brow pen before, but wanted to based on others’ results, Glossier’s Brow Flick seemed least intimidating. I honestly didn’t get it first - you have to hold in in one direction to matter what - but with some practice this is a miracle product (and works so well with Boy Brow).
If, like me, you have random sparse areas in your brows and you have trouble filling them in, Brow Flick might be the answer. It creates hair-like strokes whereas pencils and powders give flat color.
Initially, I thought it would be best to apply Brow Flick first, then fill in my brows. Instead, I find more success when filling in first, then applying little “hairs” where needed.
Solar paint
Liquid bronzer is tough, which is why I stick to creams and powders. It can be too runny and smudge everywhere resulting in a muddy mess, or it can be streaky. And that’s if you get the correct shade. (Good luck.)
The colors in Solar Paint’s range are beautiful, and it strikes just the right balance between too liquid and too creamy - it’s almost like a gel. It dries relatively quickly, so I apply little dots where I want it then blend. Which, by the way, you can do with your fingers. This is my next-to-nothing makeup look’s new best friend.
Olaplex Deep Conditioner
Just NO. I adore my Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner, so I was excited to try this. I purchased it during last Spring’s Sephora sale and am so disappointed.
You get small little pumps of product - I have to use eight - and even after sitting on my hair for a few minutes it still doesn’t seem as hydrating as the regular conditioner.
For the record, my favorite deep conditioner is the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair!
Luna Bronze Glow Gradual Tanning Moisturizer
Luna bronze has the best self-tanner for my skin, but it lasts about 5 1/2 days. To extend the tan, especially on my legs, I’ll use this. It’s the one gradual tan I’ve tried that actually has a solid amount of pigment, enough that you have to wash your hands after application, and smells very nice.
Bioderma Atoderm Shower Gel
A dermatologist I follow suggested the shower oil, but that broke me out. I’m now on my third, giant bottle of this and it’s amazing.
This shower gel doesn’t dry out skin, has a barely-there fragrance, and 3 pumps on a loofa is all I need for a quick shower or a deep clean after a sweaty workout.
T3 SinglePass Curl 1.25-Inch
I now use every day. This is my newest item on the list as I purchased it deeply discounted via the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
My old curling iron was crapping out on me, which is sad because I’m beginning to use my curling iron more often than my straightener. The main thing I wanted was a clamp that would hold my hair and something that would heat up quickly.
The SinglePass not only accomplishes these things, but leaves my hair shiny and curls bouncy. This is absolutely worth the hype.
Jason Wu Beauty Anything
You’ve heard me gush over the lip liners and Honey Fluff, but I’ve also tried the eye shadow and brow gel. So impressed. As I need to replace items in my kit, I’ll definitely purchase from this line.
Commodity Mimosa Fragrance
I love a fresh, bright fragrance. I also love fruity cocktails. And Jasmine. And champagne. I was hesitant about this but receive a sample and was blown away. This is so light and crisp and a little fruity but not at all cloying. I’ll even mix it with other jasmine-based fragrances to give it more impact.
Commodity is a great brand that took a hiatus and is in the process of rebranding, but I do hope you’ll get on their mailing lists for upcoming promotions. Magnolia is one of my all-time fragrances, and I haven’t disliked anything they’ve produced.
There you go! I don’t love to focus on products because everyone has different needs, but I do enjoy seeing what others purchase and love (or don’t!). Thanks for hanging with me, as always. By the way - I hope you’ll consider signing up for The Electra Lane Extra. It’s the monthly newsletter with exclusive content, access to a subscriber-only makeup lesson library, and other perks. You can sign up HERE. And, if you want to see me chat through each product, the video is below. Appreciate you, mean it! JY
