Last week I shared the video below on Instagram Reels using eyeliner as an eye shadow base. This is a trick I learned from makeup artist Jillian Dempsey (yes, she’s married to McDreamy) to lift the eyelid.

I’ve never tried it because, honestly, I figured it would turn into a mess unless you had an ultra creamy pencil, but then that would smudge everywhere (and not in a good way). Thankfully, I was wrong about everything!

The key was to prep the lid well with concealer and powder, then do one eye at a time. I used short, feathery strokes with a very light hand to blend, and just stayed on the line. If you move the color around too much, it will look muddy. This eyeliner, this brush, and this eye shadow palette where all I used for the look, tapping some gold onto my lid for a little sparkle.
